The Indian rupee depreciated by 13 paise to provisionally close at 96.88 against the U.S. dollar on Thursday amid global risk aversion and geopolitical tensions.
The currency remained under pressure due to macroeconomic headwinds, including global dollar strength and Brent crude prices hovering near $104 per barrel.
Reserve Bank of India intervention reportedly supported the domestic unit at lower intraday levels, preventing sharper losses.
