WHO Plans Ebola Vaccine Efficacy Trials in DR Congo

The World Health Organization aims to begin efficacy trials for three potential Ebola vaccines in the Democratic Republic of Congo by October or November.

The current outbreak, which began in May, has resulted in over 3,000 deaths and more than 6,000 infections, making it the country's deadliest Ebola crisis to date.

Researchers are testing vaccines from Moderna and the University of Oxford, while also evaluating if the licensed vaccine Ervebo provides cross-protection against the Bundibugyo strain.
