India officially rejected the Permanent Court of Arbitration's order to resume the Indus Waters Treaty, maintaining that the Hague-based body is illegally constituted and lacks jurisdiction over sovereign decisions.
The court had unanimously ruled that the 1960 treaty remains in force and prohibited India from concreting the Ratle hydroelectric project's dam wall until 90 days after a Neutral Expert's July 2027 decision.
India continues to hold the treaty in abeyance following the April 2025 Pahalgam terror attack and has refused to recognize the court's authority or appear before the body since its inception.
