NDA Panel Reviews 'One Nation, One Election' for 2029 Polls

The NDA government is actively considering a proposal to hold simultaneous elections for 22 states and Union Territories alongside the 2029 Lok Sabha polls.

During a heated Joint Parliamentary Committee meeting, Congress leader P. Chidambaram strongly opposed the move, labelling the proposed constitutional amendments as 'mindless' and 'unconstitutional'.

Panel officials stated that the implementation of 'One Nation, One Election' remains contingent on securing consensus from states and passing necessary constitutional amendments in Parliament.
