The University Grants Commission has identified 32 self-styled fake universities across India, according to the latest list published in February 2026.

Minister of State for Education Sukanta Majumdar informed the Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the Centre has directed states and UTs to register FIRs against these institutions.

The UGC has issued show-cause notices and public warnings to these entities, which are operating in violation of the UGC Act, 1956, by misrepresenting themselves as universities.
