UK Bans Trade With Illegal Israeli Settlements

UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham’s administration announced a ban on trade with illegal Israeli settlements in the West Bank, with France and Canada joining the initiative.

Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband stated that a new sanctions regime covering construction, infrastructure, and real estate companies will be implemented within six to nine months.

While bilateral trade between the UK and Israel totals $8.12 billion, the economic impact of the ban is expected to be minimal as only a small portion originates from the West Bank.
