The Congress party has opened discussions with former Gujarat chief minister Shankersinh Vaghela regarding his possible return ahead of the 2027 Assembly election.
Vaghela quit the Congress in July 2017 ahead of a high-stakes Rajya Sabha poll, leading to multiple defections that impacted the party's legislative strength.
Political analysts noted that while Vaghela's experience could help rebuild the party in central and eastern Gujarat, his return might also trigger internal factionalism.
