The Union Government has decided to refer the controversial Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) Amendment Bill to a Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for further scrutiny.
The move follows intense opposition protests in Parliament, where members argued the bill unfairly targets minority-run NGOs and restricts essential foreign funding for social welfare.
Minister Kiren Rijiju defended the bill, stating that strict oversight of foreign funds is a matter of national security, while the JPC will now review the legislation's impact.
