Leptospirosis Deaths Surge in Kerala During July 2026

Kerala has recorded 49 deaths due to leptospirosis in July 2026 alone, with 30 confirmed cases and 19 suspected fatalities reported by the state health department.

Total cases for 2026 have reached 1,381 confirmed and 922 probable infections, contributing to a cumulative death toll of 115 people across the state.

Health officials are urging high-risk groups, including agricultural and dairy workers, to strictly follow twice-weekly doxycycline prophylaxis to prevent further fatalities during the southwest monsoon season.
