Government School Closures Disproportionately Affect Poor Students

NITI Aayog data indicates that approximately 94,000 government schools have closed over the last decade, averaging 25 closures per day.

Government school enrollment share dropped from 71% in 2005 to 49.24% in 2024-25, with UDISE+ figures showing a national decline to 10.17 lakh schools.

In Madhya Pradesh, 7.37 lakh children have no school records, and 11.38 lakh students are classified in the 'Drop Box' category at risk of leaving the system.
