English village Piddington votes to secede from UK over proposed asylum centre plan

Residents of Piddington in central England voted overwhelmingly in a symbolic referendum to secede from the United Kingdom.

Out of 312 ballots counted, 285 residents voted in favour to protest government plans to house over 1,200 single male asylum seekers at a nearby military site.

Culture Secretary Lisa Nandy defended the government's plan, stating that using former military bases is better than hotels to house asylum seekers.
