Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers launched the ₹840-crore indigenous ocean research vessel 'Sagar Manthan' at its Kolkata shipyard for the NCPOR.

Scheduled to be ready by early 2028, the 89.5-metre vessel will support deep-sea exploration, marine resource mapping, and atmospheric research under the Deep Ocean Mission.

The ship is equipped to carry out seismic surveys, water sampling at depths up to 6 km, and deployment of autonomous underwater vehicles across the Indian Ocean and Antarctica.
