Over 3,400 cases of the life-threatening fungus Candida auris have been reported across 27 US states, according to the latest data from the CDC.
The fungus is known for contaminating healthcare spaces and is particularly dangerous due to its ability to rewire skin immunity and hide in hair follicles.
Medical professionals are urging increased vigilance in hospital settings, as the fungus is resistant to many standard antifungal treatments and poses a significant risk to immunocompromised patients.
