Researchers at IIT Bombay developed a low-cost, point-of-care device that screens for anaemia and sickle cell disease using blood smear length measurements.
The patented technology relies on blood viscosity and can be manufactured inexpensively, making it suitable for resource-limited clinical environments.
The team is currently collaborating with AIIMS Nagpur and a tribal health research institute to seek regulatory approval for widespread use.
