Saudi Arabia Seeks International Coalition Against Red Sea Houthis

Saudi Arabia is currently negotiating with dozens of countries to form an international coalition to protect commercial shipping in the Red Sea from Houthi rebel attacks.

The Houthis declared a maritime blockade on Saudi Arabia on July 20, leading to Saudi airstrikes on Hodeidah port facilities that the kingdom claims were used to threaten trade.

Regional diplomats, including those from Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain, have emphasized the need for de-escalation while condemning attacks by Iran-affiliated militias in Yemen and Iraq.
