The Delhi Jal Board approved an estimated ₹148.90 crore to lay an 8.34-km sewer rising main through the Yamuna floodplain to connect the Ring Road pumping station to the Okhla plant.
The project aims to reduce recurring sewage overflows from ageing gravity ducts built in 1938, 1972 and 1992, specifically targeting conditions in areas like Sriniwaspuri and Kalkaji.
Environmental activists and planning frameworks raised concerns that construction on the ecologically sensitive floodplain could disrupt floodwater storage and groundwater recharge.
