Karnataka Government Mandates HIV Screening in All Colleges

The Karnataka government has made HIV testing and counseling mandatory in all government, aided, and private colleges following a directive from the State AIDS Prevention Society.

Data from the National AIDS Control Organisation indicates that Karnataka has 260,000 people living with HIV, with infections rising sharply among the 18 to 35 age group.

Recent reports show that over 7,000 students aged 18 to 25 have tested positive, prompting the state to strengthen awareness programs in higher educational institutions.
