European physics research center CERN and French company Mistral AI signed a statement of intent to build artificial intelligence foundation models for scientific discovery.
The organizations aim to create a Large Physics Model trained on billions of simulated particle collisions to replace specialized algorithms used to identify particles.
CERN currently holds roughly one exabyte of experimental data from the Large Hadron Collider, with collision volumes expected to multiply tenfold after upcoming upgrades.
