NC State parted ways with head coach Dave Doeren on Saturday following a 31-28 defeat to Stanford that left the team with a 3-4 record.
Doeren compiled a 98-74 overall record and guided the Wolfpack to 10 bowl appearances during his 14-year tenure, the second-longest among ACC head coaches.
Special teams coordinator Todd Goebbel has been appointed interim head coach for the remainder of the season while the university conducts a nationwide search for a replacement.
