France and Spain Battle Unprecedented Wildfire Crisis

Wildfires in France and Spain have forced over 325,000 evacuations since late July, with flames reaching within 15 km of Bordeaux and burning 77,000 hectares across Avila, Madrid, and Toledo.

France has lost 69,500 hectares to fires since January, while Spain’s toll nears 150,000 hectares, prompting the deployment of over 3,700 combined personnel and international aircraft support.

French authorities reported the first-ever pyrocumulonimbus cloud on French soil, while President Emmanuel Macron convened an emergency Cabinet meeting on July 27 to address the escalating crisis.
