Google pulled its AI-powered 'Create Image' feature from Google Earth within 24 hours of launch following warnings from the OSINT community about potential disinformation.
The tool, powered by Nano Banana 2 technology, allowed users to generate synthetic satellite imagery from text prompts, which researchers proved could create convincing fakes of sensitive locations.
Google stated the feature was watermarked and never appeared in the main interface, but it will remain disabled while the company develops stronger guardrails to prevent policy violations.
