Assam Floods Claim 68 Lives as Over 6 Lakh People Affected

Devastating monsoon floods in Assam have resulted in 68 deaths over the past four weeks, with the state government reporting that more than 600,000 people are currently affected.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that districts in Assam and Nagaland experienced rainfall between 435% and 490% above normal levels, causing unprecedented river rise in regions like Jorhat and Sivasagar.

State officials have been deployed to coordinate relief and restoration efforts as thousands remain displaced in camps, with the government now shifting its focus toward long-term rehabilitation for affected families.
