The Central Armed Police Forces (General Administration) Act, 2026, establishing a common recruitment and service framework for Group-A officers, came into force on Thursday.
The Ministry of Home Affairs notification arrived while the Supreme Court is hearing petitions from CAPF officers challenging the validity of the legislation passed in April.
The new law mandates that 50% of inspector general posts and at least 67% of additional director general positions be filled through deputation from the Indian Police Service.
