Hadi Matar Convicted in Salman Rushdie Stabbing Trial

A federal jury convicted 28-year-old Hadi Matar on July 29, 2026, of terrorism charges related to the 2022 stabbing of author Salman Rushdie.

The attack, which occurred at an amphitheatre, left Rushdie with 15 stab wounds and the loss of sight in his right eye.

Matar is already serving a 25-year state prison sentence for attempted murder and now faces a potential life sentence for the federal terrorism conviction.
