The BJP-affiliated ABVP retained the Panjab University students' council presidency for the second consecutive year, with candidate Ankit Bidhan defeating AAP's ASAP candidate Adil Brar by 512 votes.
The victory was bolstered by support from the Students' Organisation of India (SOI), the student wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal, which had previously split from the BJP in 2020.
This result marks the first time in the university's 50-year history that the ABVP has secured the top post for two consecutive terms, ahead of the 2027 Punjab assembly elections.
