India's leading universities slipped in the QS World University Rankings: Asia 2027 released on Wednesday, with no Indian institution featuring in the top 50 for the second consecutive year.
India increased its regional representation to 325 institutions, making it the second most represented higher education system after mainland China, which had 448 ranked universities.
While Indian institutions excel in research output and doctoral capacity, they struggled with academic reputation, internationalization indicators, and research impact.
