Five-time world champion Viswanathan Anand was re-elected as the International Chess Federation (FIDE) deputy president during the FIDE general assembly in Samarkand.
Billionaire businessman and Kazakhstan chess federation chief Timur Turlov won the presidency on a joint ticket with Anand after a second round of voting.
Anand had been serving as interim FIDE president since July following EU sanctions placed on Arkady Dvorkovich related to the war in Ukraine.
