Gates Foundation pledges $1 billion to expand global AI access

Bill Gates warned that artificial intelligence could widen global social inequality, prompting the Gates Foundation to pledge $1 billion over two years to improve access.

The funding will support training AI models on local languages, improving health outcomes, upgrading educational tools, and informing small farmers' practices worldwide.

The foundation partnered with Google.org, Microsoft's AI for Good Lab, OpenAI, and Anthropic to launch open funding calls and regional pilot programs in Africa.
