OpenAI defended its decision to fire AI safety researchers Mikita Balesni, Tomek Korbak, and Jasmine Wang, citing a significant breach of trust.
The researchers stated they were told verbally they were fired over communications with the safety organization METR during an investigation into an OpenAI-linked Hugging Face hacking incident.
The trio warned in a letter to the safety committee that internal communications have made colleagues afraid to speak up and collaborate with independent experts.
