Maharashtra declares drought in 265 talukas amid severe monsoon deficit

The Maharashtra government declared drought across 265 of the 358 talukas following deficient rainfall recorded across 20 of the state's 36 districts.

Depleting water levels forced civic bodies in Marathwada and Vidarbha to use water tankers and artificial ponds for Ganesh idol immersions and funeral rites.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis stated during a tour of Marathwada that the state will provide cash compensation, foodgrains, and water relief to affected farmers.
