UEFA member federations voted unanimously on Thursday to boycott all FIFA competitions, including the World Cup, to protest plans to sell stakes in a new commercial subsidiary.
The protest targets FIFA President Gianni Infantino’s $20 billion proposal to spin off commercial operations, with 20 percent ownership offered to private investors including a New York venture capital firm.
UEFA stated no national teams will participate in FIFA events until the proposal is abandoned, threatening the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup hosted by Poland on September 5.
