UN human rights body expresses concern over Delhi detentions

The Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights expressed concern over reported mass detentions during Delhi protests against the Chief Election Commissioner.

The UN body urged Indian authorities to ensure peaceful assembly rights are respected and demanded the immediate release of all arbitrarily detained individuals.

Spokesperson Thameen Al-Kheetan stated that protest restrictions must meet necessity and proportionality tests while law enforcement exercises utmost restraint.
