Finance Ministry to Form High-Level Panel for Banking Reforms

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced on August 17, 2026, that the government will soon constitute a high-level committee on 'Banking for Viksit Bharat'.

The committee was originally proposed in the February 1, 2026, Budget speech to review the banking sector and align it with India's next phase of growth.

The panel is tasked with providing recommendations to the government while focusing on safeguarding financial stability, consumer protection, and inclusion within the banking industry.
