Iran Rejects New US Sanctions as Erosion of Sovereignty

Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei condemned new US sanctions announced Wednesday as an erosion of sovereignty, following President Donald Trump’s threat to punish any nation doing business with Tehran.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated the new regime aims to collapse Iran, while ship-tracking data shows only four commodity ships navigated the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday.

Tehran has granted special permission for Iraqi oil tankers to pass through the strait, a request made during parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf’s recent visit to Baghdad.
