Demetris Skourides, Chief Scientist for Research, Innovation and Technology of Cyprus, stated that the automotive industry is undergoing a fundamental transformation toward AI-defined machines.
Speaking at the HT Auto Leaderboard Awards 2026, he highlighted investments by companies like Nvidia, Google, Mercedes-Benz, BYD, and Tesla in vehicle intelligence and chip-to-cloud architectures.
Skourides argued that automobiles are shifting from interface-based controls to intent-based systems powered by agentic AI that can understand driver needs and coordinate complex actions.
