At least 17 people, including senior military officials, died when a Congolese army aircraft crashed into a residential area in Kenge, Kwango province, after experiencing a technical fault on Friday.
The victims included Lieutenant General Joseph Mutombo, first president of the High Military Court, and Lieutenant General Lucien-Rene Likulia, the military's auditor general, according to the Congolese army.
President Felix-Antoine Tshisekedi expressed sorrow over the accident, which occurred as the plane travelled from Kikwit to Kinshasa, and ordered a thorough investigation into the crash causes.
