In a historic first, the Vande Bharat Express crossed the world's highest railway bridge over the Chenab River and the Anji bridge at 100 kmph on Friday.
The milestone follows the Ministry of Railways' revision of the maximum permissible speed on the 111-km Katra-Banihal broad-gauge rail section from 75 kmph to 100 kmph after safety compliance.
Union Minister of State for Railways V Somanna stated during a visit to Katra that train speeds in Jammu and Kashmir will be increased further to 130 kmph and 160 kmph over time.
